What happens during treatment?

In New Jersey, laser hair removal has become a popular cosmetic procedure for removing unwanted hair from areas such as the underarms,

bikini line, back, or face. Laser hair removal is effective because it destroys the hair follicle, thereby inhibiting future growth. Laser hair removal uses laser light energy which passes through the skin and is absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle. The laser light scans the area being treated and disables a large number of the treated follicles almost immediately. Since the hair grows in cycles, 3 to 6 treatments are recommended to remove all of the hair growth. Laser hair removal is appropriate for all parts of the body and all skin types.

This procedure has been FDA-approved for permanent hair reduction – meaning that individuals enjoy significant long-term hair reduction over time. In some cases, multiple treatment sessions may produce results that last for several years.

Before laser hair removal, you will receive special preparation instructions. We suggest no waxing, shaving, or tweezing for at least 2 weeks before your appointment. During your session, a gel or numbing lotion is normally applied to the treatment area for added comfort. A hand-held laser device is then directed at the unwanted hair. Some individuals may experience a sensation of tingling or a slight sting during this process, but the majority of people find these feelings tolerable. Because hair follicles go through cycles of activity and rest, a series of about 4 to 8 treatmentsis usually needed to see ideal results.
